Many folks run a marathon on Thanksgiving Day morning to prepare for a prodigious holiday meal later, but a local annual tradition can be less taxing — and more rewarding.
The Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association will host its “Furry Feast†at 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, at its 1248 Greenbrier St. headquarters in Charleston.
Through 11:15 a.m., shelter visitors can walk the dogs up for adoption there around the KCHA grounds or take them for an automobile outing before returning to the premises. Walks/rides will be staggered in shifts, with beginning times of 7:45 a.m., 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m.
Along with providing a few hours of companionship and exercise for the canines, participants will be able to provide a homeless pet a Thanksgiving dinner of “muttloaf.†They will also receive a digital keepsake photograph of themselves with their paired pet.
Furry Feast tickets cost $25 and can be purchased via or by contacting the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association at or 304-342-1576. (If you can’t partner with a pet on Thanksgiving morning, financial donations are welcome for the shelter and its animals, as well.)
Tickets aren’t required for participants ages 15 and younger; KCHA officials request they not walk the dogs themselves but walk alongside them with an older teenager or adult as the primary walker.
