Kanawha County and surrounding areas could see rounds of strong to severe storms by Friday night, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston. Damaging winds are the main threat, though large hail and tornadoes could also occur.
"The primary threat will be damaging winds, 50-70 mph," said Gabe Wawrin, meteorologist at the NWS in Charleston. "The secondary threat is large hail — maybe quarter size," he said.
Across central and south-central West Virginia, 12 counties are until 4 a.m. Saturday morning. Flash flooding is possible Friday night from thunderstorms that contain heavy rainfall.
